What is a filter effect?

A filter takes an input signal and cuts off any frequencies outside of a set frequency domain determined by a cutoff frequency. In human language: it takes away big chunks of frequencies you don’t want to hear.

You can for example use them to clean up your sound when mixing by removing low-frequency rumble from a microphone recording using a high pass filter, removing high pitched noise caused by ac signal disturbance or other high-frequency signals with a low pass filter.

Another example of using a filter is by making amazing filter sweeps to add more movement to your music.

There are also several types of other cool filters that affect the output signal differently, some of which are included in other filter effects in Soundation such as Wubfilter.

The Filter effect in Soundation contains both LP (Low Pass Filter) and a HP (High Pass Filter) switchable by clicking the corresponding buttons.

A LP filter is a filter that lets frequencies below the Cutoff frequency through and attenuates all frequencies above the Cutoff frequency.

A HP filter does the exact opposite of a LP filter.

The Resonance knob determines how much resonance will occur alongside attenuation, accentuating the cutoff frequency and giving a "ringing" feel to the sound.
